Caffeinated soda drinks have many unhealthy aspects, and should not be used, especially by children. These pop soda drinks are extremely damaging, and should be banned from schools and excluded from a nutritious diet that meets all your nutritional needs, and those of your children. If you are addicted to these beverages, you might start thinking about switching to drinking them in small amounts infrequently.
Caffeinated soda is a very unhealthy beverage for a number of reasons:
1. High in Caffeine
One of these is that one soda drink contain large amounts of caffeine, and can have results similar to a cup of coffee. Most people would not dream of giving their child a cup of coffee, but may allow a number of caffeinated soda beverages through the day. Caffeine can be toxic in large amounts, especially in children. Even one pop soda during the day can cause a decrease in attention span, and can cause hyperactivity in children.
2. High in Sugar
All non-diet soda soft drink beverages are extremely high in sugar, which has many negative effects on individuals of all ages. Too much sugar can lead to an increased risk of childhood and adult onset diabetes. This substance also leads to tooth decay and cavities. There is also an increased risk of obesity for anyone who drinks soda drinks regularly or frequently. One soda soft drink can pack up to five hundred calories or more, depending on the specific size and pop soda brand, and most of the calories come from the high amount of sugar.
3. Causes Dehydration
Soda drinks have no nutritional value at all. These drinks are basically water with unhealthy ingredients like caffeine and sugar thrown in, as well as a number of artificial colors and flavors, and then carbonation is added. Even the water has no nutritional value when consumed in these drinks, because caffeine is a natural diuretic and will cause water loss. These soda drinks can actually cause dehydration if consumed in large amounts, especially in children.
4. Damages Your Teeth and Bones
Caffeinated soda can leach minerals from your bones and teeth. Some ingredients, including phosphorous, can actually pull calcium and other minerals from your bones and teeth and cause them to weaken. This can lead to bones that fracture and break much more easily, and higher rates of cavities and tooth decay. These soda drinks can pose health dangers and make your body more likely to suffer injury.
5. Replaces Healthy Drinks
Caffeinated soda takes the place of healthy nutritious drinks, like water and milk, which are needed for your body to operate properly. This is a bigger risk to children who are still growing, because they may not get enough calcium and other nutrients in their diet because of the number of pop soda beverages consumed each day. Instead of drinking or offering soda drinks, try flavored water, milk, or even juice instead. All of these beverages offer nutritional value and are better choices than pop soda.
6. Can Lead to Obesity
Soda drinks are high in empty calories and will contribute to large weight gains and medical conditions, including a slower metabolism. Because these drinks offer no nutrition but are very high in sugar and harmful chemicals, they can cause your metabolism to slow down and contribute to many medical conditions related to obesity.
7. Might Cause Diabetes
Caffeinated soda makes insulin less effective, which can cause diabetes. The high amounts of sugar in soda drinks makes your body have to work overtime to produce insulin, which keeps your blood sugar level stable. Once the sugar from the pop soda is gone from your bloodstream, you may have too much insulin left. This cycle can lead to diabetes, both in children and adults, and has a very damaging effect on your body, which likes and even needs stable conditions. The sudden sugar spike in your bloodstream caused by caffeinated soda can create chaos in your body, and this threatens homeostasis and even your survival.
